Bracing here on Long Island

It's 7:50 PM and the wind is starting to really whip up out there. I really can't believe the size of this storm. The impact to us is supposed to be Monday night 10- 20 ft wave surges. Glad I am in the middle of the Island and not near the shore.

  2. With possible storm damage and electrical outages impacting the impending elections, I advise all Obama supporters to wait until Nov. 15 to cast their ballots.

  3. I'll saw a prayer, too, Lisa... I know all will be fine, but it's got to be scary having that thing bearing down on your area. xx

  5. It was one monstrous and horrible storm. And I actually stayed up until 1 am watching it all unfold.

Thank goodness you and so many others are safe.

  7. Long Island -- the place of my happiest childhood summers -- East Marion, Greenport, Southold on the north fork -- later great times in Sag Harbor, East Hampton and Ammagansett.

Still have family in Mineola. I haven't been able to get through on the phone yet.

A friend who lives on Staten Island has five feet of water covering the first floor of her house. Lots of wreckage. We emailed last night, but then her battery died, and she's incommunicado.

Didn't want to leave her dog and three cats, so got trapped on the upper floors.

    It's really bad situation.

Funny! Another friend in Providence, RI said they'd had nothing but a heavy rain and more than average wind, but nothing frightening or damaging.

Nature can be really weird, can't it?

Do you think it's Global Warming? I have to admit I wonder after all that's been happening wit the weather the last few years.

Take good are of the dogs, Lisa. ;-) I know you will anyway.

  8. well we fared well with no damage. We have no power and they suspect it will be about 10 days. I Have a friend who offered us a hot shower which we will be doing. Can't wait to wash and blow dry the hair. I was going to get wash and blowout from my regular hair cutter but they haveno power either. No heat either here. Parts of the island is like a ghost town. We actually found "D" batteries. They got 3 packs of 8 in and 3 packs went right out,2 of which we grabbed. FT I think I saw you comment a few times about being from LI. I forgot about that. Well time to go charge the phone in the car. Good thing I filled up

  10. Mittmentum Baby! Las Vegas Journal Review (from swing state Nevada) ANNIHILATES O'Dingleberry as worthless, unworthy, perverse and destructive. Game over!

"This administration is an embarrassment on foreign policy and incompetent at best on the economy - though a more careful analysis shows what can only be a perverse and willful attempt to destroy our prosperity

These behaviors go far beyond "spin." They amount to a pack of lies. To return to office a narcissistic amateur who seeks to ride this nation's economy and international esteem to oblivion, like Slim Pickens riding the nuclear bomb to its target at the end of the movie "Dr. Strangelove," would be disastrous."

  11. Gosh, Lisa I am so sorry. It helps we went 12 days without power when we had a huge ice storm hit our state. Thankfully, we had a generator and nothing in our refrigerator went bad and I thank God we had a gas water heater and gas stove.

With a little ingenuity my husband had all these electric cords up on the ceiling and were taught what to unplug and what not to unplug for hair dryer and so forth.

I pray you get your electricity back on and soon, today!

  12. Radical... That Las Vegas has no real cred here in Nevada. They completely misread and misreported the polls in the run up to the Harry Reid election.

If the RJ says Romney is winning, go and bet Obama in Nevada...

  13. Interesting how you didn't even attempt to show them to be wrong...
