Immigration Letter

I came across this letter to the editor at a New Jersey newspaper that never made its way to print so I am sharing it with all of you.

NOT printed in the Orange County Paper ...
Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with your help, it will get published via cyberspace!

From: "David LaBonte"

My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to "print" it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:

Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get
down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good-bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought alongside men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France and Japan. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the United States of America as one people.

When we liberated France, no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German-American or the Irish-American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

  1. Bravo, Rosemary. I have seen that before but am glad for the reminder, Lisa....well thought out, isn't it. The immigrants of old wouldn't take welfare if their lives depended on it; they were far too proud, unless they REALLY needed it. They came to contribute and BE AMERICAN, not be sponging on Americans.

  2. Very sad indeed isn't t Z? Why is it we are the only country who doesn't have to honor our sovereignty?

  3. "The immigrants of old wouldn't take welfare if their lives depended on it; they were far too proud, unless they REALLY needed it." --Z

Of course they wouldn't, and the reason is that those programs didn't exist for them or for native born Americans. When the Irish, Italians and other immigrant poor came to this country, no federal government welfare programs existed.

  4. BTW, Lisa, that letter has been going around in people's email since 2006.

and since now they do this is why they come. The other reason is for Obama to make points with Hispanics for the election. You know because the democrats really "care" about the children

  6. And in response to your phony Valerie Plame leak from your blog ,I am answering you here because you probably wouldn't post this had I left it on your blog

  7. Ah-Yup. Isn't it interesting (well) that the libtards cannot discern the physical difference between immigrants who came here to work, and integrate into American society and the pathetic pukes that are only here for the free stuff. Maybe they don't pay taxes them selves and feel no burden - but they will when the people paying for all this get tired of it. And they will. I'd hate to be a worthless, useless, ignorant sponge when that happens. Well, maybe they can call FEMA to help them. HAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAH GAG AHHAHAHHAAHAHAHAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH AHAHHAAAA

  8. I've heard that immigrants get entitlements for which long-time American citizens can rarely or never qualify -- never mind that many of those long-time American citizens whom I personally know in such a plight labored for at least 2 decades and find themselves in a surreal financial plight which isn't their own fault.

In one such case of which I have much personal knowledge, the wife became permanently and severely disabled following what should have been a simple operation. Finally -- after some 20 years of what amounted to medical bankruptcy -- the husband was able to get Medicaid for his wife without losing the one asset remaining (their very modest home of 1000 square feet, a home which no longer had a mortgage). The poor man has been working three jobs as long as I've known him just to keep body and soul together -- and not on nutritious food either (pasta, rice, etc.). The poor diet has taken a severe toll on both the husband and the wife.

Yet, the newly arrived illegal immigrants with their anchor babies -- in the same town -- were getting all sorts of assistance. Where is the justice in that?

    Good letter-to-the-editor.

  9. I have much less-than-average assistance for illegal immigrants. The car accident which was caused by one and ruined my back for life (Unremitting pain now for over 9 years!) resulted in no financial recovery for me because the illegal immigrant, long under a deportation order, had no assets. To top if all off, he was driving a cab for the biggest cab company here in this area; the cab company knew that he was illegal. Even so, the cab company cannot be held liable. Go figure!

  10. One has to only wonder how many Americans know that Michelle Obama’s mother is living at the White House at taxpayer expense? Not many, I’d guess.

  11. Hi Stephanie Gordon, you adorable little thing! One has to only wonder why you bring this up. How many Americans know that Ulysses S. Grant, Harry S Truman, and Dwight D. Eisenhower all had their mothers-in-law living in the White House at taxpayer expense.

Perhaps you, dear, bring it up because you are unaware of those facts?

Or are you upset because this particular president's mother-in-law is living in the WH?

In any case, Stephanie, sweetie, I'm glad to better inform you on this issue.

  13. What is one mother in law compared to dictators Obama rolled out the red carpet for.
the red carpet was rolled out for Equatorial Guinea's Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who shot or jailed virtually all his political opponents, Gambia’s Yahya Jammeh, who threatened to ‘cut off the head’ of any homosexuals in the country and for Cameroon’s Paul Biya, who has the dubious honor of ranking 19th on author David Wallechinsky's 2006 list of the world's 20 worst living dictators.
    Who's next,the leader of Isis?

  14. My goodness, Lisa, such righteousness. I bet you felt as passionately about presidents entertaining thugs and terrorists when Mr. Reagan welcomed the Taliban into the Oval Office and favorably compared them to America's Founding Fathers. Wasn't Mr Reagan sweet to do that?

And how about the time Donald Rumsfeld praised Saddam Hussein and shook his hand? Or when GWB held the Saudi Prince's hand as the two of them had a sweet evening stroll in the White House gardens? (y'know, the Saudis don't you? They're the ones who were the majority of those who took control of the planes that flew into the towers, pentagon, and went down in Penn.? You do remember them don't you? Georgie Bushie held their hands. That was lovely, too, wasn't it?

Oh, and Maggie Thatcher, a real hero of the right got real chummy with butchers and tyrants: Thatcher backed the Chilean dictator, General Augusto Pinochet, even after his military government was exposed for interning, torturing and killing Chilens. More than 2,000 Chileans were murdered and over 30,000 tortured. She declined requests to speak out for freedom in Chile; preferring to heap praise on Pinochet’s adoption of her monetarist economic mantras.

    Meanwhile, there's this:

Gambia’s most feared and brutal Babili Mansa has been forced to swallow two bitter humiliations in America today as his henchmen watched helplessly. President Jammeh who is celebrated for issuing out deadly threats to vulnerable Gambians and ensuring his blood thirsty security carries them out to his wish has be disgracefully caged in his hotel room by Gambian demonstrators barricading the hotel. He was literally imprisoned in a five star hotel today in America by Gambian protestors armed with only eggs. The already tamed Gambian wounded lion received a further blinding slap on the face by President Obama.
President Obama disgraced Jammeh by extending special invite to Fatou Camara, President Jammeh former Press Secretary and dream girl, to grace the spousal dinner organized by America’s First Lady Mitchell Obama for the visiting African Presidents attending the US-African Business Summit tonight. It would be recalled that Fatou Camara was unlawfully arrested and detained for more than twenty-five days at the NIA under the directive of President Jammeh. After escaping the Dracula claws of her former boss to America, Fatou vowed to fight for the restoration of democracy in the Gambia.
