NiMN, as a good sock puppet I'm sure you will and as a good sock puppet Master Lisa will no doubt give you a treat with a sprinkling of Dr, Scholl's foot powder.
in what way? Good Grief give the woman credit.she really went out on a limb for Sgt Tahmoreesi. At least he knows someone here cares about him, unlike the president who could care less leaving him in that hell hole while having a big hoopla for the parents of the deserter in the Rose Garden
One should have compassion for "FreeThinke", if rumor I'd correct he is bipolar and gone off his meds. Apparently that may be why he shattered all his mirrors.
If a Mexican citizen driving the other way was caught doing exactly what this soldier was doing, he'd be sitting in one of our shamefully nightmarish prison right now. Conservative should shut their mouths on this. They have nothing to stand on.
As probably the only one here who regularly crosses the exact border where this soldier was taken into custody, let me offer a few insights.
First, his story about getting confused rings totally true. In the last few years, both Mexico and the US have been making significant changes in the lanes, the border crossing stations and the entire environment there.
Recently, a friend and I made the exact wrong turn the soldier did on I-5 and ended up entering Mexico against our wishes. We also did not have our passports, so coming back was going to be a problem.
Luckily, we were able to work out our return with the Mexican officials at the border and they even pled our case to the US immigration agents.
That crossing, with all the work is confusing.
However, the soldier still broke Mexican law by taking guns and ammo into the country. He should never have crossed the border. If he would have stopped at the entry gate and demanded US help, he would not be in this situation, but that would have taken an extremely quick thinker.
US law enforcement would have been pissed, but he would not be in a Mexican jail right now.
Once he was taken into custody, he should have told the truth, from the start. His mom even acknowledges that his story changed. That has made the Mexican government suspicious of his intentions, as it would ours, if the problem were reversed. That's on him.
JMJ has a good point. Most of the people raising the alarms on this historically support a law and order stance that says if you break the law, you do the time.
As one who works and serves in Mexico, I know that if I break the law, it's my issue and while my government can ask for leniency, my final disposition will be in the hands of the Mexican government. That's the way it is, plain and simple.
I am not sure what type of realistic remedy people want. It is entirely possible that our government is not doing much to get him released because the Mexican government is going to want a quid pro quo on a future Mexican national sentenced to death here in the US.
They have asked us to intervene in cases such as these in the past, and we have said no many times.
It is a hard situation with no easy solutions and few realistic ones.
Hopefully, once his case gets heard, he will get sentenced to "time served". But Mexico is a sovereign nation and as such, like it or not, we must respect their decision on this, just as we expect them to respect our decisions when our courts find against one of there citizens.
It's all part of international diplomacy... even though many times it drives all of us, including me, nuts.
BS Jersey ,he was treated like a POW. Our prisons have 3 squares , showers and laundry service. He has a bucket to wash his clothes not to mention he was tied up spread eagle and threatened with rape and murder and he was beat up by other prisoners and guards and he was chained to a cot for 30 days by his ankle. and how many Mexicans come here accidentally? Really? They sneak over and we let them stay and open up our welfare system to them. If Obama wanted him out he could get him out. But he is a pos who only does things if he can get a photo op out of it and who also loathes the military like Bill Clinton,Hillary and John Kerry . It's amazing how these "loathers" are put in top military positions. I wonder if Eric Holder and Jerry Brown will attending the funerals for the cops who were killed by a criminal illegal who snuck in here 2x after being deported instead of imprisoned
Thanks Dave ,I do understand that. That being said I also believe we don't owe Mexico anything . I believe we have done more than enough for them by taking unskilled labor out of their economy and putting it in ours and giving them stimulus through tourism
Obama traded five Taliban monsters for the deserter Bowe Bergdahl because he said we don't leave soldiers behind. For some reason that doesn't apply to a real hero? The media is camping outside that Ebola nurses home in Maine where is defying her quarantine yet only Greta and Bill O'Reilly ever mention this Marine.
I cannot believe this Marine has been in prison this long. Is Mexico just giving us the finger? They should be kissing our behinds for letting them dump all their poor, uneducated, unskilled and unemployed wards of the state across our border.
Mike, I noticed the headline on your site recently: "NASA's Exploding Rocket a Metaphor for Obama Presidency."
You do realize the rocket was launched by a PRIVATE company. Got that, a PRIVATE company. I just thought I'd point that out so you understand why only the fringe right is interested in what you have to say. PRIVATE COMPANY, NOT NASA. If it's any consolation, Faux News and Breitfart did the same thing.
It's true, we don't know much about this case or what contact the government has had with the Mexican government. But we aren't in the position to offer some drug cartel members in exchange.
Extremely well stated Dave. Factual and void of political bias.
Lisa, we do owe Mexico the diplomatic respect we expect of them. I do agree our affording "their unwanted", whomever that may be, government benefits is a legitimate issue. Which is why we need effective immigration reform passed in Washington.
MA, is the state of Mexico dumping their poor, uneducated, unskilled, and unemployed on the USA or are these people coming here looking for opportunity?
Further, why are American businesses hiring the people? Often against federal law.
Their government helps them get here and then the money goes back into the Mexican economy via Western Union, while 15 kids from various families living under one school tax bill get use of our education system, food stamps and health care.
Obama calls that promiscuous 30 year old "college student" Sandra Fluke over a lie about Rush Limbaugh calling her a slut and he calls a gay football player for "Coming out" and set up this big phony press conference in the Rose Garden for a deserter's parents, but he can't make a phone call to an American soldier being held in a 3rd world prison offering him support. This is beyond shameful. This man is struggling there and Obama says "Meh"
Tahmooressi is being held at La Mesa State Penitentiary in Tijuana, And now...for the facts:
Mexico for allegedly trying to bring weapons over the US-Mexico border. He faces federal weapons charges, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune:
The charges include possession of two firearms meant for exclusive use of the Mexican military; bail is not permitted. If convicted, he faces six to 21 years in a Mexican prison, said his Tijuana attorneys.
Tahmooressi had three weapons, all registered in the US, including a .45 caliber pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, and an AR-15 rifle.
Tahmooressi attempted to escape after he was taken into custody, the AP reported.
Lisa, can you provide any factual links that show the Mexican government is helps them get here? Perhaps they provide information on what a person could do to stay alive on the journey, but real help is basically non-existent.
Mike, trading with a shadow group like the Taliban is much different than dealing with a government and you know that.
As for many of the Mexican immigrants, I dare say I'd take many of these hard working people who are truly appreciative of the chance to finally support their family over many of "Americans" who are unable or unwilling to do a decent days work anymore.
I've worked construction for years in the Los Angeles area and legal people with no skills at all are demanding $20.00 an hour for crappy work. As a starting wage!
Whatever happened to start low, work hard, and grow your wage? Todays workers are expecting whatever job to pay top dollar. It ain't gonna work like that.
I've yet to see that attitude within the Mexican communities, both here in the US and in Mexico.
Ducky, when I was managing a manufacturing business in my past life I did a lot of business with a man who owned a painting and industrial cleaning (machinery and restoration) business, he employed only Hispanics. They were ard working, put quality first, and were great to have around. The ownwer told me when I asked him why he only hired Hispanics hat they were harder working, more reliable, had more loyalty, and were more honest that most. He paid them well and when he retired and sold the business guess who he sold it to.That's right and employe.
I think poor Andrew Tahmooressi would get more sympathy and greater support from the American public if he didn't look so much like a damned Middle Easterner. He really does look like a FOREIGNER. Not fair, I know, but it is what it is.
"if he didn't look so much like a damned Middle Easterner. He really does look like a FOREIGNER." I've heard some silly things from lefty trolls but rarely people who should know better.
Andrew is as American as Apple Pie and he's a MARINE!
Ducky, reply to your reply is not working (using Google Chrome) so I'll post here in case you troll by. This was a NASA mission outsourced to a private company because Obama has terminated so much of NASA's original mission. In case you were not aware there was no replacement for the Space Shuttle. Obama refused to fund it. We are now dependent on Russians for manned transport and now even for rocket engines.
If you don't see the problem with that then I'll be happy to explain it to you.
The rocket was buil by a PRIVATE company. It was the failure of a PRIVATE company. Just like the Richard Branson's SpaceShipTwo company screwing he pooch the other day was the failure of a PRIVATE company.
Another lame attempt to pin something else on Obama. And by the way, we don't need manned shuttle to send crap to the ISS. A NASA employee tells me these Russian rockets are the best engines made, unable to be replicated by the US and cheaper than to even try.
Nice try Mike and thanks again for saving us billions, Obama.
"SAN DIEGO (AP) — A Mexican judge on Friday ordered the immediate release of a jailed U.S. Marine veteran who spent eight months behind bars for crossing the border with loaded guns."
KUDOS for posting this Lisa. Greta is one of the 5 or 6 I really like at FOX News, a good reporter and with class.
ReplyDeleteThanks RN . I really don't understan why he is still there . This is so wrong.
DeleteWell, you can't be sure there aren't ongoing efforts to get this resolved.

Well realy, I'll be sure to tell her that, I'm sure she'll be very please to hear that.

Second group was clearly immigrants and they busted their asses. Job passed inspection and was done in a day. The price was lower.
