    The design of our Constitution was designed to rebel against such arrogation of power. Separation of powers and federalism aren’t fusty concepts designed to please rebellious aristocrats; they are the living embodiment of our founders’ desire to divide and check power — not vest “total” “authority” in one person, no matter how wise that person may be.

    That was the basic genesis of the Declaration of Independence — King George III had grabbed all the government power for himself. The declaration’s text proclaims “the history of the present King of Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States.” The American Constitution is a self-conscious reaction to that concentration of power, not a document to mirror and enable it.

    For weeks I have been dutifully washing my hands and even taken extra care to wash my feet while Mr. Trump and most of the White House staff were dawdling.

    What were they doing wasting time?

    Did the White House’s dilatory behavior have something to do with impeachment?

    Was that somewhat of a distraction to the Assistant Presidents in the West Wing?

    Florida inmate freed because of coronavirus outbreak, accused of murdering someone the next day

    An inmate freed from the Hillsborough County Jail in Tampa to prevent the spread of the coronavirus is back behind bars after allegedly murdering a man the day after his release, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said late Tuesday. Joseph Edwards Williams, 26, was sprung from jail along with 163 detainees said to be low-level offenders on March 19, according to records from the Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Williams had been arrested on March 13 for possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Local authorities say he fatally shot a man on March 20 in the county’s Progress Village area.
