  2. Thanks, Lisa, and the same to you and yours.

And thanks for the graphic reminders that we, who tend to complain so much, really have very little to complain about compared to too many others.

    Thank God for family.

    Thank God for friends.

    Thank God for life,

Even in strife.

    What a pity it ends

As we're following trends

Before we could hope

To start making amends!

Live and let live,

And above all forgive.

  5. Your picture of the homeless man brought this great poem to mind, Lisa.

    _______ Nocturne _______

    Now through night's caressing grip

Earth and all her ocans slip,
    Capes of China slide away
    From her fingers into day

And th'Americas incline

Coasts towards her shadow line.

    Now the ragged beggar creeps

Into crooked holes to sleep:

Just and unjust, worst and best,

Change their places as they rest:

Awkward lovers like in fields

Where disdainful beauty yields:

While the splendid and the proud
    Naked stand before the crowd

And the losing gambler gains

And the beggar entertains:

May sleep's healing power extend
Through these hours to our friend.

Unpursued by hostile force,
    Traction engine, bull or horse

Or revolting succubus;

Calmly till the morning break

Let him lie, then gently wake.

    ~ W.H. Auden (1907-1973)

    2. Why not tell us what a wonderful time you had at Thanksgiving, Les? At least I hope is was wonderful.

Of course, to me at this age any day that passes without illness, accident or disaster is cause enough for celebration. As I wrote to a group from my high school class (1959) a copule of days ago when a few feathers started to get ruffled:

Be of good cheer, my dears.
      We're running out of years.
      ;-)

Hope yours was wonderful as well.

  9. ______ ON the SIGNIFICANCE of BLACK FRIDAY ______

"Whatever is popular is wrong," said Oscar Wilde.

I'll go a lot farther and say flat out, "VULGARITY IS VILE." Put in today's unfortunate vernacular that means COMMONNESS IS NOT COOL. ;-)

My instincts have always told me to avoid crowds, avoid confusion, and avoid confrontation as much as possible. I became aware early on that advertising was nothing but manipulation through a form of mass hypnosis, and so I became immune to its fake appeal. I won't even use the name again in commenting on the subject in the title of this article, because even that would be going along with the cultural pollution and degenerate, socially destructive policies we should regard as extremely distasteful.

In short if EVERYBODY'S DOIN' IT, SKIP IT.

A well-known, self-described atheist in the blogosphere quipped:

”Black Friday: The day after people give thanks for what they have and then go out and trample each other for things they don't have.”

I felt compelled to deny that assertion, because in Truth the Kingdom of God is within each one of us, regardless of his or her physical or economic circumstances, there is nothing we truly need that we do not have with us all the time.

We have only to recognize God's presence in order to benefit from His limitless store of Love and Wisdom. To deny His presence is to shut ourselves off from Him, and deny ourselves His protection.

Learning to understand who and what He is is the work of a lifetime.

We must shed our acquired sophistication, our beetle-shelled cynicism, and above all our Vanity, Conceit and Self-Centeredness in order to render ourselves as open -- and as credulous -- as a little child, if we are to receive the ever present Gift of Divine Love. That requires daily battle with the monstrous force of egoism -- a battle few-if-any ever win completely.

May God bless you, and keep you, and open your heart to His great glory.

PS: No matter what you may or may not choose to believe God is with you whenever you have love in your heart.

  13. What we should tell a person about politics who is just becoming of age to vote?
I, myself grew up under Bush, who the left called a terrible president who started wars and let Clinton's repeal of Glass-Steagal go full retard. And who was vilified by the left. No matter what you may hear about what the “right” has done or said about Obama, wheat the “Left: did to Bush was much worse. He was called all kinds of names from “Stupid” to be depicted as a Chimpanzee and worse.

Many of us, myself included, voted for Obama, because he said he'd repeal the Patriot Act, bring some sort of stability to the Middle East (including ending the wars) and be transparent.

Instead we got the Patriot Act on steroids, the Middle East burning down, and the least transparent presidency ever.

If an establishment Republican or Democrat wins again, they'll make Obama look like a saint, just like Obama made Bush look like a saint.

Except for getting Free Weed, why should people in my age group even vote or give a shit, since apparently it doesn't matter? And that this president is a lying dirtbag.

Maybe we should tell them that people voted for Obama because they bought all the rhetoric about Bush and his failed policies. But Bush was a decent president who was handed a difficult assignment right after 9-11. Second piece of advice, would be to get an education so you can judge for yourself what and how someone will do.
Some of us knew from the get go that Obama was a failure waiting to happen. I said at the very begining Obama has terrible judgement, and that was a character flaw. His redesign of the Presidential seal before he was president, his decision not to wear a flag lapel pin, his refusal to stand appropriately for the national anthem. All of them were small things in themselves but betrayed a larger character issue. And I’m not even going to get into the biggest flaw of all and that would be Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
And then there was simply the reality that the presidency is a tough job that requires excellent managerial skills. Nothing in Obama's past demonstrated he had any of those skills. And indeed his presidency has been marked by some of the worst management in history.

  14. Like other truly talented phonies, Barack Obama concentrates his skills on the effect of his words on other people — most of whom do not have the time to become knowledgeable about the things he is talking about. Whether what he says bears any relationship to the facts is politically irrelevant.
A talented con man, or a slick politician, does not waste his time trying to convince knowledgeable skeptics. His job is to keep the true believers believing. He is not going to convince the others anyway.
    Thomas Sowell

  15. Opinion lacking relevant facts is nothing but belief founded on nothing.

Politicians count on and play to people's fears and ignorance.

Republicans have become especially adept at this of late.

  16. Obama is an expert on it. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what a narcissist liar he is,unless you have been hiding under a rock the last 6 years.
Obama has brought more people to the streets rising up against his policies.
Oh wait I forgot,It's because people are racist.. Speaking of opinions that lack facts.
