The acquittal is illegitimate because the impeachment is illegitimate. There was no trial because the Democrats avoided the scrutiny of a trial.
The entire mess developed rapidly from the the fact that the Inspector General investigated a contrived “whistleblower” letter. Schiff created the rules, to create the letter, to create the committee inquiry. He issued subpoenas, even though the House did not vote for the impeachment process to begin. Only the House impeaches—not Schiff—therefore, the House calls witnesses by vote, not Schiff from his secret basement. By the time the House approved the impeachment process, Adam Schiff had already sent out dozens of subpoenas which, having been done before the House vote, were all legally invalid. This was nothing more than a case of premeditated punishment seeking a crime.
Every action after that unauthorized inception was invalid. The House impeachment articles should have been thrown out of court on the first day.
Trump was guilty of doing his job, which involved investigating a crime based on prima facie evidence. His impeachment was an Obstruction of Justice, used to prevent the investigation of the perpetrators of the crime. In this case, the perps they were protecting were their own.

With the 51 to 49 vote not to call witnesses, the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump is on track to an acquittal. And so the Trump impeachment saga is coming to an end not with a bang but a whine. “We wuz robbed!” shriek the foot-stomping Defecrats as they repeat their poll-tested mantra that the trial was rigged because no witnesses were called to testify.
Consequently, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has decreed that the president will remain impeached forever, and his presidency and all that flows from it will be deemed unclean and illegitimate. Obviously, this latest failed effort to depose Trump has left the Democrats frustrated, bitterly disappointed . . .
An acquittal resulting from a sham trial is a sham acquittal. btw, the other House investigations into Dotard continue. For example, the matter of Dotard's financial records and tax returns is still before several courts. Obviously he is hiding some very incriminating and/or embarrassing shit. It WILL come out eventually.
DeleteAdditionally, the Constitution does not say that a president can only be impeached once. The House could still send additional articles of Impeachment to the Senate. The festering problems in the economy, however, must be dealt with quickly by the next president and Congress, who will have a short window of opportunity to address climate change, inequality, and the lack of trust between the governed and the government.
